Lynn Slaathaug Moen
Attorney at Law
Biography
Lynn is a partner at Nilson Brand Law and focuses her practice exclusively on family law, representing clients in some of the most important and challenging moments of their lives. Her experience spans nearly every facet of family law, including high- asset divorce, child custody and parenting time, child support, adoption, gestational carrier and assisted reproductive technology (ART) matters, parenting investigations, and complex financial disputes.
With a reputation for being compassionate, knowledgeable, and determined, Lynn is known for her meticulous approach to cases involving complicated financial issues and child support calculations. She is relentless in ensuring her clients are treated fairly and that their voices are clearly heard. Colleagues and clients alike recognize her ability to combine empathy with precision—especially when the details matter most. In fact, those who know her will joke that if you want to threaten Lynn with a good time, just show her a scrupulously prepared spreadsheet.
Outside the courtroom, Lynn is deeply engaged in both the legal profession and her community. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA), two highly selective organizations recognizing attorneys who demonstrate exceptional skill, experience, and ethical leadership in family law, adoption, and assisted reproduction matters. She is also a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar Association of North Dakota. Locally, Lynn serves as Vice President of the Mayville Public Library Board, reflecting her commitment to public service and community involvement.
Lynn has worked with local and international agencies in the representation of gestational carriers and prospective intended parents, helping families navigate the legal complexities of building families through adoption and assisted reproduction. She is passionate about staying at the forefront of family law developments and regularly attends family law conferences and continuing legal education events across the country. Lynn also enjoys sharing her knowledge through presentations and speaking engagements at state and local bar events.
When she is not practicing law, Lynn enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and dog. Much of that time is spent supporting her children’s activities or relaxing together at the lake. A native of Thompson, North Dakota, Lynn was raised with a strong belief that hard work, integrity, and compassion can make a meaningful difference, values that continue to guide her approach to family law advocacy.
